Overview

Sommi AI is a wine recommendation app. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and what control you have over it.

Account

Sommi AI requires you to sign in with Apple. When you do, we receive from Apple:

We use this information to create your account, identify you across devices, sync your subscription status, and contact you if needed for account or subscription matters. We do not sell or share this information with advertisers.

Data stored on your device

Your wine journal, cellar, tasting notes, ratings, taste preferences, and the photos you scan are stored locally on your device. They are not automatically uploaded to our servers. If you delete the app without using the Backup feature, this data is permanently lost.

Data sent to our servers when you scan

When you scan a wine menu or bottle label, the image is sent to our server to generate recommendations. The image is processed in real time and is not retained on our servers after the response is returned.

Your taste profile (ratings and preferences) and the food you've selected may be sent alongside a scan so the recommendation can be personalized. This data is used only for that request and is not retained.

For free-tier users, we record a per-scan timestamp on our server (without the image) so we can count usage against the monthly free limit. We do not store what you scanned.

Subscription and billing

Sommi AI offers an optional paid subscription ("Sommi Pro") for unlimited scans and additional features. Subscriptions are processed by Apple via the App Store. We do not see or store your payment details.

We use RevenueCat to manage and verify subscription status across your devices. RevenueCat receives your in-app user identifier and the subscription events Apple sends (purchase, renewal, cancellation, refund). Our server is notified by RevenueCat when your subscription status changes so we can grant or revoke access to paid features.

Backup (paid feature)

If you use the Backup feature, your local journal, cellar, preferences, and scan photos are bundled into a single archive and uploaded to our object storage (hosted on Railway). The archive is encrypted in transit, stored in a bucket scoped to your account, and is only retrievable by you when you sign in. We do not read or analyze the contents.

If you delete your account, your backup archive is deleted along with your other server-side data.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account removes:

This action is immediate and irreversible. Local data on your device is also cleared on sign-out. We may retain minimal records (such as anonymized billing logs) where required by law or for accounting purposes.

Children

Sommi AI is intended for users of legal drinking age. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a minor has used the app, contact us and we will delete their account.

International users

Our servers are located in the United States. By using Sommi AI you consent to your data being processed in the United States. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your data and to object to its processing — contact us using the email below to exercise these rights.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
